The fibres aren’t the only reason a sisal rug is an environmentally friendly choice. The process of growing the fibres and creating the rugs also has a positive impact on the environment and economy. Sisal fibres come from the leaves of the Agave Sisalana cactus, and approximately 1,000 fibres are extracted from a single leaf, and the rest of the plant is used to either feed farm animals or produce electricity.
